Escape Marrakech for a day and journey into the stunning High Atlas Mountains to witness the Ouzoud Waterfalls, Morocco’s highest cascades. This popular day trip takes you through scenic olive groves before arriving at this natural wonder. Enjoy free time to explore the trails, admire the breathtaking views, spot native Barbary apes, and savor lunch at a restaurant overlooking the magnificent falls. It’s an unforgettable way to experience one of Morocco’s top sights.
Your day trip to the Ouzoud Waterfalls begins with a departure from Marrakech. As you travel, admire the impressive landscapes of the Atlas Mountains and pass through numerous olive farms. Upon arrival at the small village of Ouzoud, you’ll begin your visit.
Make your way past local souvenir stalls and start the descent down a series of stairs, navigating past charming cafes. Even before you fully descend, you’ll catch your first spectacular view of the waterfalls – a truly breathtaking sight.
For the more adventurous (and those with suitable footwear!), an alternative, slightly more challenging path offers incredible views and often more encounters with the local Barbary apes.
Reaching the base of the falls provides the best perspectives and, during summer months, a chance for swimming. You’ll also find small boats offering short, charming tours near the cascades (though walking across is also easy).
This area is the natural habitat of the famous Barbary macaques {monkeys}. Enjoy watching these wild monkeys roaming freely. For lunch (not included), several restaurants boast spectacular waterfall views.
After ample time for exploration and lunch, you’ll begin the return drive to Marrakech. Expect to arrive back in the late afternoon, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, concluding your memorable day trip to Ouzoud Waterfalls.
