Your 4-day journey from Tangier to Marrakech begins with pick-up from your designated location (hotel, airport, or harbor). We’ll travel south through the scenic Rif Mountains, passing near Tetouan, en route to the captivating “Blue City” of Chefchaouen. Upon arrival, you’ll have free time to explore this unique town. Wander through its narrow, blue-and-white washed streets – perfect for capturing beautiful photos.
Discover the old Medina and visit Ras el Ma (“Head of the Water”), the point where fresh mountain water flows into the town. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in the main square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam. In the afternoon, we depart for Fes, enjoying continued stunning views of the Rif Mountains and the verdant landscapes of northern Morocco. We’ll arrive in Fes in the late afternoon, where you’ll check into your charming hotel or riad for your overnight stay.
After breakfast at your hotel, your driver will pick you up around 8:30 AM to begin the journey towards Merzouga. Enjoy a scenic drive south through the Middle Atlas mountains and charming Berber villages. Our first stop is the picturesque city of Ifrane, often called “Morocco’s Switzerland” due to its alpine architecture. We’ll then continue to the famous cedar forests near Azrou, where you’ll have the chance to see and photograph native Barbary macaques.
Proceeding through the Atlas Mountains, we’ll reach the town of Midelt, a good place for a lunch break. Afterwards, we head south towards Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and annual date festival, traveling through the stunning Ziz Valley. We’ll pause here at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the vast oasis scenery below.
By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the edge of the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, you’ll embark on a camel trek into the desert, lasting approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Along the way, we’ll pause atop a high dune to witness a spectacular Sahara sunset – a perfect moment for photos and perhaps trying sandboarding if you wish. You’ll then continue to the Berber camp, where you’ll be greeted with traditional mint tea. Relax until dinner is served, followed by traditional Berber drumming music around the campfire. Enjoy the clear starry sky before retiring to your nomadic tent for the night.
Waking early is highly recommended today to experience the magical sunrise over the dunes near the camp – an unforgettable sight. After capturing these moments, enjoy breakfast and the chance to shower at the camp. You’ll then return to the edge of the dunes, either by camel or 4WD vehicle, to meet your driver and continue your 4-day desert tour.
If it coincides with a market day (typically Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), we’ll visit the bustling weekly market in Rissani. Our journey then takes us through small Berber villages like Touroug and Tinjdad towards Tinghir. Here, we’ll stop to admire the beautiful Todra Valley, a lush corridor of palm trees leading to the impressive Todra Gorge.
Located at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains, the Todra Gorge is renowned for its towering canyon walls, a popular spot for rock climbers. We’ll have free time to walk along the riverbed through the high canyons. After a lunch break nearby, we’ll travel onwards to Boumalne Dades, arriving in the scenic Dades Valley in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a hotel or riad in the valley.
Following a delicious breakfast at your accommodation, our journey continues towards Marrakech. We’ll travel via Kalaat M’gouna, famous for its roses, pass through the picturesque Skoura palm grove, and head towards Ouarzazate. In Ouarzazate, you’ll have the option to visit the historic Kasbah Taourirt and the renowned Atlas Film Studios.
Next, we drive to the iconic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. Explore this ancient fortified village, famous as a backdrop for numerous films like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Jewel of the Nile. Afterwards, there will be free time for lunch nearby.
Our final leg takes us across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’tichka pass, Morocco’s highest road pass at 2,260 meters (7,415 ft). Enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of mountains, valleys, and traditional Berber villages along the way. We expect to arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening, where your driver will transfer you to your hotel, marking the end of your 4-day tour from Tangier.
